Welcome to Wicklow Dementia Support

Mission Statement

To support people in County Wicklow with dementia and their family carers. WDS is a voluntary organisation, set up and run locally by a small group of committed activists.

The objectives of the organisation are :

  • To support people with dementia and their family carers in County Wicklow (and its environs)
  • To assist them in maintaining a quality of life
  • To enable them to remain at home
  • To continue that support into long term care as appropriate.

The overall driving force is to retain as much independence as possible for those with dementia and for them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. To help achieve these ends, a variety of services has been established by WDS. (Wicklow Dementia Support).  These services comprise a Carers Support Groups, AlzPals, AlzInfo, and AlzClubs. It is envisaged that these will expand and develop over a period of time, but will remain locally run and driven to address the needs of those with dementia in County Wicklow. The organisation is undertaken by a voluntary committee, which appoints facilitators as appropriate to the various services. Volunteers are recruited and trained to carry out the work of the organisation, which will be an ongoing project growing as its benefits become known and accepted.
