Singer/songwriter/producer Neil Byrne, best known for his work with International touring group Celtic Thunder and as part of the award-winning folk duo Byrne and Kelly, is releasing an original single ‘Christmas Time 1983’ with 100% of the proceeds being donated to Wicklow Dementia Support.

Neil’s father, Eddie Byrne, passed away from dementia on 7th May 2018 and prior to his passing received in-home care provided by Wicklow Dementia Support, an organisation that is operated and staffed by volunteers to help people with dementia retain their independence and to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. To help achieve these ends, a variety of services has been established, which run concurrently with each other. These services comprise Carers Support Groups, AlzPals, AlzClubs, Musical Memories, Meet and Eat and other special projects.

“These volunteers were some of the kindest, most selfless people I had ever met in my life. They made my dad as comfortable as possible. They became friendly faces for dad to interact with and were so professional, sensitive and caring when it came to personal care. My family and I will always be beyond grateful to these loving people and the organisations that provides us with this respite, love and empathy.”

Since his father’s passing, Neil has raised funds in several ways in an effort to give back to those who are directly impacted by dementia.

“This year and with Christmas upon us, I felt that I could write a Christmas song that reflects on the past. In my case I am blessed to say that I had a very happy upbringing by two very loving parents with so many happy memories of when my dad was a fit and well man. And as the song goes – ‘here’s to the joy that surrounded me at Christmas time 1983”
