Wicklow Dementia Support is a charity operated and staffed by volunteers to help people with dementia retain their independence and to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
To help achieve these ends, a variety of services has been established by Wicklow Dementia Support (WDS), which comprise of:
Befriending service for people with dementia to support them continue to engage in their interests and activities. It also supports the carer by providing a break for them.
Social groups where people with dementia and their families meet on a weekly basis
Monthly meetings for carers of people with dementia to meet and support each other
Monthly meeting for those who have experienced loss.
It is envisaged that these services will continue to expand and develop over time, but will remain locally run and driven to address the needs of those with dementia in Co Wicklow.
The organisation is managed by a voluntary Board, which appoints facilitators, as appropriate, to the various services.
Volunteers are recruited on an ongoing basis and trained to carry out the work of the organisation.
